The Interdepartmental Research Centre for Medieval Philosophy “Carlo Giacon” – CIRFIM of the University of Padua mourns the death of Elsa Peretti (1 May 1940 – 18 March 2021), founder of the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation and world-famous jewelry designer.

Thanks to her extraordinary open-mindedness and generosity, the CIRFIM Centre was able to receive substantial funding from the Foundation for a project entitled “Supporting a 3‐year post‐graduate program on the Arabic transmission of learning in the Mediterranean area (8th‐12th centuries)”. On 19 March, the very day after Elsa Peretti’s death, a young scholar who received a scholarship within this project brilliantly defended her doctoral thesis in Philosophy at the University of Padua.

The CIRFIM Centre expresses its condolences to the family, friends and collaborators of Elsa Peretti, whose memory it will keep alive through its scientific commitment to research aimed at better knowledge and mutual understanding between the great cultural traditions that flourished in the Mediterranean basin during the Middle Ages.
